Indian Automobile Industry News September 2015

The sales growth in passenger vehicles and overall commercial vehicles segment could not drive the Indian Automobiles industry to growth in September 2015. Indian Automobile domestic sales declined marginally by 0.45% for the month of September 2015 according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) released figures. Automobiles production also registered a decline of 1.74% while exports grew a moderate 3.54%.

The overall passenger vehicles segment was able to post positive results in September 2015 due to 9.48% sales growth in passenger vehicles. Sales of utility vehicles declined by 8.56% and at the same time Vans sales came down by 10.01% in the same month.

Commercial Vehicles segment registered a positive sales growth of 12.07% with Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) and Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) segments sales going in opposite directions. M&HCVs posted 63.76% growth in sales with passenger carriers sales growing 45.94% while goods carriers sales being up by 66.48%. The LCVs segment witnessed a negative sales growth of 14.50%, mainly due to 17.15% sales decline in goods carriers while the passenger carriers grew by 15.36%.

Sales in Three wheelers segment were also down by 13.04%. Both passenger carriers and goods carriers declined by 12.95% and 13.49% respectively.

Two Wheelers segment sales witnessed a decline of 1.06% in September 2015. Scooter was the only category of this segment witnessing a growth of 6.54%. Motorcycles saw their sales decline by 2.87% while Mopeds sales decline was 21.20% in the month of September 2015.

Automobile Exports were up 3.54% in September 2015 over September 2014. Passenger vehicles exports were down by 0.57%, with passenger cars and vans exports declining by 11.85% and 22.94% and utility vehicles exports growing by 92.10%. Commercial vehicles segment exports declined by 5.95% with M&HCVs and LCVs declining by 13.61% and 2.05% respectively. Three wheelers and two wheelers brought the positive growth with both segments registering positive exports growth of 22.99% and 1.83%.
