Indian Automobile Industry News December 2014

Passenger cars showed yet another month of growth with 15.26% rise in December 2014. The Automobiles domestic sales grew by 5.68% according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) released the automobiles figures for the month of December 2014. The domestic automobiles production growth for the same period was 6.28%.

The overall Passenger Vehicles segment sales growth was 12.41% for December 2014 compared to December 2013, with passenger cars growing at 15.26%, Utility Vehicles growing by 7.67% while Vans declining by 1.71%.

The Commercial Vehicles registered a growth of 9.01%. Within this segment, M&HCVs registered an impressive growth of 58.33% with Goods Carriers growing at 64.09% and Passenger Carriers growing by 29.26%. In the Light Commercial Vehicles segment, the overall growth was negative at -11.56%, with Passenger Carriers growing at 29.65% while Goods Carriers having a sales decline of 14.82%.

Three Wheelers sales growth in the same month was 13.13%, with Passenger Carriers growing at 15.28% and Goods Carriers registered a growth of 5.99%. The Two Wheelers segment grew at 4.25% in December 2014. The Two Wheelers sub-segments i.e. Scooters, Motorcycles and Mopeds registered a growth of 24.01%, -3.52% and 10.21% respectively in December 2014.

The December 2014 growth in automobile exports was 16.79% over December 2013. Exports of Passenger Vehicles grew by 32.32%, total Commercial Vehicles exports by 17.46%, Three Wheelers by 14.35% while Two Wheelers grew by 13.04%.
